Olala, if you trust me you have to try this recipe, you will LOVE IT. I can promise with you this!

Ingredient Note

Instead of chicken legs, you can use wings, thighs or chicken breast for this recipe, they will turn out so good too. I can not wait to try with wings, but I believe and have no doubt about how it turns out 👏

Cooking Method
Courses ,
Servings 1
You will need
  • 1 chicken leg
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 green onion (chopped)
  • 1 lime (cut into quarters)
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 lemongrass stalks
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 chili (minced, use less if you prefer)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp chinsu hot sauce or sriracha
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/4 tsp five spice powder
  • 1/4 cup water
Instructions
  1. Use a small sharp knife to spread the chicken leg wide, make sure you can see the whole bone of the leg.

  2. Heat a frying pan over medium heat, you can add 1 tsp of cooking oil or just don't add anything.

Place the chicken leg into the pan, skin side down. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes until the skin's golden brown.

  3. Flip the chicken and cook for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a plate.

  4. Add 1 tbsp of cooking oil in the pan with garlic, lemongrass and chili. Stir for a minute, more or less until fragrant and golden.

Add in sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, chili sauce, ketchup, five spice powder and water. Bring it to a boil then add the chicken leg.

  5. Use a spoon or a ladle to drizzle the sauce over the chicken for 4-5 times. Reduce the heat to simmer and cover with a lid. We let it cook for 4 minutes.

  6. Remove the lid and keep drizzle the sauce on the chicken for 4-5 times. Cover and cook for another 4 minutes.

Repeat this process for one more time or until the sauce is thickened. Check the chicken and make sure it's cooked!

  7. I like to sprinkle some black pepper on the chicken and transfer to a serving plate. This dish is a perfect match with steamed rice, or you can make a banh mi with it. All will be so good!

Sprinkle some chopped green onion and squeeze a quarter of lime over the chicken. Enjoy!!!!!!! 💘
